Alison has worked in publishing for 38 years and specifically in academic publishing since 1997 when joining IDS. She has worked with many projects on varied subjects to produce publications of all types and advise on internal and external processes for open publishing.  

Alison has oversight of the IDS Publishing Programme and writes and updates the IDS Publishing Strategy, as well as various accompanying guidelines and training sessions. She has the overview of internally-produced publications and leads on management of Open Access and Open Data processes in the Institute. She has experience across several aspects of publishing including editorial project management, editing at all levels, page layout, proofreading, and the use and application of copyright and licensing, enabling production of creative formats from briefings to eBooks.  

As well as acting as the Editorial Coordinator for the IDS Bulletin, the Institute’s peer-reviewed Open Access journal, Alison also has oversight of the Institutional Repository, OpenDocs. She currently leads a team of publishing specialists in-house and works extensively with freelance editorial professionals to achieve IDS’ publishing goals. Previous experience included roles in graphic design and printing.
