Brazil’s priorities for tackling global challenges with Ambassador Antonio Patriota

15 February 2024 16:00–17:30

Institute of Development Studies IDS Convening Space and online on Zoom.

His Excellency Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Brazil’s Ambassador to the UK, will discuss Brazil’s vision for tackling pressing global development, climate and environmental challenges, in the year that Brazil is the Presidency holder of the G20.

Watch now

The return of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the presidency and his announcement that ‘Brazil is back’ has been met with much expectation worldwide. Added to this, Brazil is a key focus for global policy engagement due to its role in leading the G20 and upcoming host of the UN climate summit COP30 in 2025, while the country’s stewardship of critical biomes, including the Amazon and the Cerrado, place it at the forefront of climate and environmental debates.

Join us for this opportunity to hear the Ambassador in conversation with IDS Director Melissa Leach and IDS Director of Research Peter Taylor, and discuss Brazil’s global role for development and international cooperation, amid a critical and challenging geopolitical context.

Chair

Peter Taylor, Director of Research, IDS
