IDS is hosting a lecture exploring leadership in global development inspired by the legacies of three individuals central to our history: Hans Singer, Dudley Seers and Richard Jolly.

IDS knows that new generations of informed and knowledgeable leaders and champions are needed to respond to the global challenges. Through the lecture Pauline Koelbl will share insights on leadership in global development and encourage discussion on addressing issues for future leaders.

Pauline graduated from IDS in 2008 with an MA in Poverty and Development and over the last 11 years her work has concentrated on catalysing marketable, scalable, and impactful home-grown innovations for African-led growth across the African continent as well as building strategic partnerships and innovation ecosystems that will invigorate economic growth across Africa.

Pauline is passionate about innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment of youth and women.

As ShEquity’s Founder/Managing Partner as well as AfriProspect GmbH’s Founder/CEO, Pauline is a gender-lens/impact investor and a leading innovation expert in developing & emerging economies with over 20 years’ experience in international affairs and venture philanthropy.

About Hans Singer, Dudley Seers and Richard Jolly

The lecture will take inspiration from the contributions of three leaders in international development:

  • Hans Singer, a pioneering economist who worked at IDS from the 1970s to early 2000s;
  • Dudley Seers, founding Director of IDS from 1966 until 1972;
  • Richard Jolly, the Institute’s second Director, then Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations and who continues to work at IDS.

With their leadership, thousands of students at IDS have learnt vital skills, going on to make a difference to development challenges around the world.

Covid-19 protocol

The wearing of masks is voluntary, and we encourage those who would like to wear masks to do so. Surgical masks are available in many of the meeting rooms and from the reception counter.

If you are planning to attend an event and would like to request that others wear a mask, you can either contact us in advance at [email protected], or speak to an IDS representative on the day.

We also ask that when requested by colleagues or others in a meeting or event to wear a mask, please treat the request with respect and put a mask on.
