IDS Staff at the Global Evidence Summit 2024

Published on 29 August 2024

IDS is thrilled to announce that we will be attending the Global Evidence Summit (GES) as a programme partner for the first time this year.

This quadrennial event is a unique platform designed to facilitate collaboration and partnership across various sectors, with the shared goal of driving evidence-informed policy and turning research into action.

GES offers a valuable opportunity to connect with researchers from other academic fields, expanding our collective knowledge and initiating new multi-sectoral partnerships that will help propel efforts toward global sustainable development.

Using Evidence. Improving Lives.

This year’s theme for the GES is ‘Using Evidence. Improving Lives’, which resonates deeply with our mission, and emphasises the critical role of evidence-informed policy to improve people’s lives across the world.

We are looking forward to participating in a dialogic exchange of ideas about evidence synthesis, translation and implementation, and sharing our learnings on knowledge translation and evidence-informed policy with a wider audience, underscoring our growing prominence in this vital area.

James Georgalakis, Director of Evidence and Impact at IDS, will be presenting work on the power cube, knowledge translation in the Global South, as well as sharing insights on how facilitated learning programmes like the IDS-hosted K4D programme have influenced UK government decision making.

Samantha Reddin, Communications and Impact Manager, will be sharing learnings from the Child Labour Action Research in South and Southeast Asia (CLARISSA) programme, on how global platforms, like the programme’s interactive hard labour website, can shed light on the worst forms of child labour.

Nasreen Jessani, Head of the Knowledge, Impact and Policy Cluster at IDS, will be presenting learnings from research, including research on non-communicable disease policy and practice, knowledge translation in times of crises, and the value and utilisation of issue briefs as knowledge translation and advocacy tools.

Nasreen will also be chairing a plenary session, with panellists Devaki Nambiar, Ladislav Dusek, Laura Boeira, Okwen Patrick, entitled ‘Advocating for greater evidence communication and use of evidence’.

We will also have a stand in the main hall of the conference, where you can come and meet us, find out more about our research and evidence services, and discuss potential ways of working together.

You can view the full timetable for all events at the GES here. Please find all details of our presentations, poster sessions and events below (IDS staff members in attendance are highlighted in bold).
